What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent Makeup is cosmetic tattooing, and is also sometimes referred to as micropigmentation or dermagraphics. Our highly experienced Permanent Makeup Artist uses a tool that precisely deposits colored pigmentation into the upper reticular layer of the skin. While it is referred to as “permanent,” some fading can occur over time, depending upon a patient’s lifestyle (including sun exposure) and skin type; however, this typically presents the patient with an opportunity to re-evaluate and play with color and design. Touch-ups and enhancements can be made as often as you like, but are usually recommended every three to five years.

Permanent Makeup can be applied to enhance any of the following:

  • Eyebrows
  • Mucosa
  • Beauty marks
  • Lash enhancement
  • Scars (camouflage)
  • 3-D Areola pigmentation
  • Eyeliner, top and bottom
  • Lip liner, lip color, and lip blending

Permanent Makeup: What to Expect

The consultation and application of Permanent Makeup can take anywhere between 1 ½ to 2 hours per area being treated. Because the procedure is tattooing and the pigment must penetrate the skin, there can be some minor discomfort and swelling, but this really depends on the pain threshold of the patient. Topical anesthetics can be administered but aren’t always necessary. We cover all of the service and care options during the consultation between the Permanent Makeup Artist and the patient to ensure that they are equipped with the care they need to get the results they want.
