What to Expect

The CoolGlide® handpiece was designed to provide a cooling, soothing feel as the laser does its work. As the pulse of light is delivered, some patients report a slight pinching or stinging sensation, however the cooling helps keep these feelings to a minimum. Topical anesthetics are available upon request, although they are not required.

Preparing for Cutera CoolGlide® Laser Hair Removal

  • You should not be treated if you have had significant sun exposure or artificial (light based or spray-on) tanning in the 2 weeks prior to treatment.
  • Please do not pluck or wax hair prior to treatment. You will need to wait at least 3 weeks to have laser hair removal if you have plucked or waxed the area being treated.
  • The night before or day of procedure, shave the treatment site. The area being treated with laser hair removal must be shaved prior to your appointment time.
  • Please clean the skin, including removal of all makeup and other skin care products. Any creams or products left on the skin can interact with the light and increase the risk of unwanted side effects. This includes topical anesthesia which is not recommended.

Post Treatment Care

  • Some patients report some redness and swelling immediately after the treatment. Ice, chilled gel, or hydrogel pads may be applied post-treatment as needed for your comfort.
  • If lentigines darken during treatment, they should be allowed to flake off naturally for best results.
  • If a wound develops, an antibiotic ointment may be recommended such as over the counter bacitracin. Neosporin is not recommended. Contact Terrell Clinic for further care instructions.
  • You may go back to your usual shaving routine at least one day post procedure. For optimal results, do not pluck or wax the area being treated in between laser hair removal treatments.

Treatment Plans

Additional treatments may be scheduled as the next growth phase occurs and new hair is visible. A general guideline is 6-8 weeks between treatments although this may vary for each patient. Generally, most areas require three to six treatments, although it most definitely depends upon hair thickness and where you are in your growth cycle.
