Knowing When to Move Forward with Liposuction

It’s a Big Decision. Ask Questions.

Surgery of any kind can be scary. Elective surgery can be just as overwhelming, even if we feel sure that we’ll come out of it with the results we desire.

Terrell Clinic receives hundreds of calls each year with questions about our cosmetic procedures—especially liposuction.

We can hear the nervousness and excitement behind patients’ voices as they ask questions and weigh the options of an elective procedure and consider feeling more confident and enjoying the end results. As practitioners in the field of cosmetic surgery, we understand this and appreciate the weight of the decision.

Liposuction has come a long way since it was first introduced as a means to reducing fat in the body. Over the years, it has become less invasive and requires less downtime.

Most recently, VASERLipo® has produced groundbreaking results for patients in the area of cellulite reduction through VASERsmooth®. Combined, the two technologies allow the doctor to eliminate fat, while tightening and smoothing the skin.

Terrell Clinic was actually the first to bring VASER technology to Oklahoma and we remain the only clinic in Oklahoma City with VASERsmooth® technology to treat cellulite in addition to fat reduction.

Technologies have advanced and patients who are well prepared for the surgery enjoy remarkable, life-changing results. Despite this, making the decision to move forward with liposuction is a big one. If you’re seeking consultation or thinking about moving forward with liposuction, consider the following:

  • Is your doctor using the most effective, least invasive technology to perform the liposuction procedure? Dr. Terrell is an enormous advocate for VASERLipo® based on the ultrasound technology it utilizes to gently and precisely contour the body. She’s the only doctor in Oklahoma City with state-of-the-art VASERsmooth® technology to treat cellulite at the same time that she’s eliminating extra fat. She also uses additional technologies, often in very precise combinations, to customize the procedure for each patient. Though this takes more time and expertise, Dr. Terrell’s patients benefit greatly by experiencing better results.
  • How many procedures does your potential doctor perform in a day? Dr. Terrell limits her schedule to one liposuction procedure per day without exception. It is her policy to focus only on one patient at a time and provide all of the necessary attention required to perform liposuction for the most optimal results. This is in direct contrast to most clinics—which pack doctors’ schedules—and allows us to treat our patients as our number one priorities.
  • Are you getting your questions answered? We’re all too familiar with the feeling of being rushed in the doctor’s office. Between overbooking and poor staffing, some practices lack the bedside manner required of someone going into and recovering from cosmetic surgery. Be sure that you are comfortable with the people you meet in the office and how you feel when you are receiving your consultation.

Liposuction is a life-changing decision. For many, it helps redefine how we feel on the outside to match how we feel on the inside. Your doctor and the technology used are the major factors you must consider as you move forward with this decision. Ultimately, when you find the right match, you are going to be thrilled with the experience and overall look and feel of your new figure!

Liposuction for the Arms: What to Expect

Dollarphotoclub_65827046_0

Terrell Clinic offers a number of ways in which we can help sculpt, slim, and provide more definition to the arms. One of the more successful treatments is liposuction. For anyone who has not experienced lipo, the thought can be daunting. There are hundreds of techniques and countless promises for results out there. But with an experienced provider and good research, this is a cosmetic correction that can help provide a lasting look and feel to love.

DON’T BECOME OVERWHELMED BY THE OPTIONS

Dr. Terrell uses three primary techniques for liposuction: VASER Liposuction, VASERsmooth, and SmartLipo. As a patient, all you have to do is schedule a consultation, and Dr. Terrell will do the rest. She works closely with patients to determine which combination of the the three technologies will help you achieve the look and feel you desire. She expertly and precisely uses each technology, often in innovative ways, to sculpt and diminish excess fat in each part of the body that she works on.

Importantly, all liposuction technologies have been thoroughly vetted by Dr. Terrell based on their ability to provide results, minimize scarring, and provide faster recovery. Terrell Clinic schedules just one liposuction procedure per day in order to achieve the most optimal results for the patient. This allows us the time and resources required to provide the best treatment. Unfortunately, this is not always common practice in the field.

HOW SOON WILL I RECOVER FROM LIPOSUCTION OF THE ARMS?

Once the procedure is complete, you are sent home with an abundance of resources and education for aftercare (not to mention our full support as you heal). You’ll also wear a surgical garment, with pads inserted to cover your incisions, for three days post procedure.

Because of the innovative technology behind VASER and SmartLipo tools, incisions are small and close on their own over the course of 3 to 10 days. During this time, we suggest having maxi pads on hand as you’ll be changing them out regularly to keep the area clean.

After the first 72 hours, you’ll be able to take your garment off to shower. We will provide you with an additional garment to put on while the other one is being washed. That way, you’ll have a spare to use in those first weeks of wearing the garment continuously.

Everyone is different, but for the most part, you’re going to be sore at least the first two weeks. Patients generally return to work after three days. Of course, this is when you can take a shower, so this certainly helps prepare you to face the day! After about two weeks, you can likely head back to the gym, but again, everyone is different. We ask that you consult with Dr. Terrell about your personal recovery timeline.

Ultimately, Dr. Terrell advises that you keep the surgical-grade compression garment on at all times for those first two months. This really is crucial for proper healing and the best long-term results.

A patient recently commented, “About six to eight weeks after the procedure, I really started to notice a difference. At first, I thought the swelling was completely gone and that I looked awesome, but it was truly just the beginning! It just continues to get smaller and tighter-looking. I love it!”

Some quick tips for an easy recovery:

  • Take sponge baths during the first couple of days post surgery.
  • Prepare the maxi pad strips in advance so that you have plenty on hand during your recovery.
  • Switch from prescribed pain medication to over-the-counter Tylenol after the first or second day post surgery, if possible.
  • Get your hair done in advance of the surgery so you don’t have to worry about it during the first three days of healing.

Where will liposuction work best for me?

Dollarphotoclub_71926623_0_0_0

Liposuction, when performed by a skilled surgeon, is an excellent option for patients who wish to slim down and firm up the appearance of a number of specific body areas. We have come a long way from our traditional methods of liposuction, and the advances have significantly benefited patients in terms of reaching harder to access areas of the body (not to mention healing time). Terrell Clinic works with VASER Liposuction and SmartLipo technologies based on their unique abilities to thoroughly and effectively treat areas that have traditionally posed a challenge. In addition, both allow the surgeon to take a more gentle, precise approach to fat elimination.

Liposuction can be performed on any of the following areas of the body:

  • Hips
  • Thighs
  • Calves
  • Ankles
  • Arms
  • Back
  • Neck
  • Chin
  • Buttocks
  • Saddlebags
  • Upper abdomen
  • Love handles or muffin top
  • Breasts (including male breasts)

It is important to note that liposuction cannot replace a diet and serve as a long-term weight-loss tool. Rather, the procedure serves as a wonderful opportunity to fine tune and contour specific areas of the body and complement the results of a healthy diet and exercise plan.

Ultimately, when you come to Terrell Clinic for a consultation, you may have a good idea as to which areas of the body you would like treated with liposuction. Dr. Terrell will work closely with you to help you determine how many areas can be treated at once and how to select areas based on your unique proportions and expectations. Everyone has a different body shape and size so your consultation, procedure, and results will be different from that of your friend.

The most important considerations you can make with Dr. Terrell are whether the procedure is the right type of treatment for you, where on your body liposuction can benefit you most, and how comfortable you are with the process of surgery.
