Chemical Peels at Terrell Clinic

Sun exposure, acne, and aging can leave your skin tone uneven, wrinkled, spotted, or scarred. Chemical peels can smooth the texture of your skin by removing the damaged outer layers.

A chemical peel, also called chemexfoliation or derma peeling, is one of the least invasive ways to improve the appearance of your skin. Although chemical peels are used mostly on the face, they can also be used to improve the skin on your neck and hands. There are a number of options available in terms of chemical peels. Whether you are seeking an overall glow or a more intensive treatment for deeper lines and wrinkles, our clinical staff will work with you to select the best treatment for optimal results.

Chemical Peels can improve:

  • Freckles
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Age and liver spots
  • Acne or acne scars
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Irregular skin pigmentation
  • Rough skin and scaly patches

What to Expect from a Chemical Peel:

The treatment you will receive is a clinical treatment designed to exfoliate or remove the outer layers of the skin. Your participation in your skin care treatments will determine the outcome. It is important that you strictly adhere to your home care products that have been recommended.
During the treatment, you may experience some temporary stinging or warm flushing. This will fade within a few minutes. During the next few hours, you may experience some tightening of the skin, which may last for several days. For most patients, flaking begins within 48 hours. It is impossible to pre-determine how much peeling will occur. The shedding process usually subsides within 5-7 days.

Some things to remember before a Chemical Peel:

  • You should not have taken Acutane within the past 12 months.
  • Do not use glycolic for 24 hours.
  • Do not use retinol products for 72 hours.
  • Do not use Retin-A products 5 days prior to the chemical peel or 5 days after.
  • Do not wax the area being treated 7 days prior or 7 days after the chemical peel.
  • You’ll want to avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks after.
